Presentation on Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) at FinTech Week 2021

On the 22nd of November 2021, our co-founder Fred Steinmetz gave a lecture on „Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) – The future of the Euro“ on the occasion of the Fintech Week 2021 at the Blockchain Monday of the Hanseatic Blockchain Institute.

Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), unlike cryptocurrency, describes a digital currency which is issued by central banks to complement existing forms of money, such as cash, and is thus be accessible to a broad public. With CBDC, a purely digital means of payment can thus be established as an additional standard. As certain advantages are seen in the introduction of CBDC in terms of e.g., money supply control, lower money procurement costs or more efficient payment processes, almost all central banks in the world are now looking into the issue and examining the conditions under which CBDC can be introduced.

We would like to thank the Hanseatic Blockchain Institute for the organization of the successful event and the exciting contributions to the discussion.
