Participation in the international conference: GAM(BL)ING: Commodification of Leisure in the Digital Era

Thanks to the HERMES research group for organizing and hosting the very insightful “Interactive Symposium 2021 on the Commodification of Gam(bl)ing” at Concordia University, Montréal, in which participants from a total of 28 countries took part. Our co-founder Ingo Fiedler led an interactive workshop on the overlaps of gambling and cryptocurrency trading.

From May 10 to 13 the conference was hosted as an interactive digital conference by the HERMES research group. The symposium provided a space for researchers, students, clinicians and others to share knowledge and discuss issues surrounding digital gam(bl)ing and the commodification of leisure in the digital age.

The programme included top-notch research on the blurred boundaries between offline and online spaces. An important question was whether the different forms of consumption connect harmoniously or disruptively along the physical-digital continuum.

The symposium was attended by renowned speakers including a guest talk by Edward Snowden.
